OP-1 is inspiring but has huge limitations for sequencing and requires live playback. Organelle is very cool and very hackable but not really designed for sequencing and finishing an entire song on. If you really must have a keyboard on the device itself though, op-z would probably do the most out of all the options you suggested.

I have a deluge and love it, but as far as I know all of those options would be great and portable and then could use midi keyboard when you need to do live recording in. Then add it to a box like a novation circuit, mpc, masculine, deluge, etc. A good small midi keyboard to use might be the Arturia Microlab.

At that form factor and size, there’s a good reason most companies don’t do keys and opt for buttons and grids instead. I’ve used the op-z and the op-1 and can say that if you’re a keys player you’ll probably want something bigger anyway. Otherwise, if you want something with all those features (portable, synth and sample, good sequencing, able to finish songs) it’s much easier to find a box with out keys that fits those requirements and then add a small midi keyboard. But it’s not portable and it can’t sample. If keys is an absolute must but you also want powerful sequencing and a good synth engine, the only thing I can think of that fits the bill is Digitone keys. You can see how I use mine here if you’re curious: So expect to be able to do a lot of things you want to, but not everything Tweaking existing patches via the synth’s controls isn’t bad, but making patches from scratch is incredibly tedious the synth’s built-in effects are really limited, so it would’ve been nice to easily add external effects to individual patches Only a pair of outputs hurts multitimbral mode a lot. I have some buttons on my bcf2000 set up to send “all notes off” commands to the blofeld fine for the studio, but not reliable on stage. I often get stuck notes, and sometimes patches don’t load properly, which I can only fix by power cycling. The synth is buggy in general, and multitimbral mode is especially so. I’ve had two simple mono parts and one poly wavetable part playing 4 note chords, and had to deal with voice stealing. wavetable oscillators, effects, using modulation slots iirc. various software editors are available to speed up sound design.the various drive curves help add character to the filters nothing comes close to its multitimbrality and flexibility for the price.I have a blofeld and it’s a powerful, but flawed tool Korg modwave is 2-part multitimbral and importing user wavetables seems much easier Likewise, I personally wouldn’t want a 2-pole-only synth like the XD as my only synthesizer, because I use a lot of 4-pole sounds - but again, that’s just me! it’s a really beautiful filter (that can get nasty as well)įilters are one of the most inspiring parts of a synth for me, and having both 12 and 24 dB options almost feels like having two different synths, so I really like the deepmind for that alone. When he starts cranking up the resonance around 26 minutes, you can really hear how the DM filter screams beyond the range of the XD. You can also hear the deepmind’s filter compared to the juno 106 here at 21:40: The deepmind has a filter with switchable 2-pole (12dB/oct) and 4-pole (24dB/oct) slopes, which you can hear here at 9:28: The minilogue xd ONLY has a 2-pole (12dB/oct) filter, which you can hear at 10:50 here: Personally, the most important difference for me is the filter

The deepmind’s mod matrix is great, the xd’s digital oscillator is great too - you can make great music with either one, so don’t worry about it too much Thoughts on if this is a good, more budget-friendly audio interface? "24-bit/192 kHz" in and of themselves seem like good specs, yes? For example, does it have a good quality clock? are there jitter issues?

I am more worried about those "under the hood" things - things I either don't know exist or don't know how to identify.
#Renoise sampler set polyphony limit upgrade
An audio interface is certainly one piece of equipment I'm willing to upgrade later, and for now I can do more than enough with two synths or one synth and a mic or other instrument. I don't know if it's expandable, which for now actually isn't a dealbreaker. I'd be using it with a Windows operated PC (which several reviews claim is ideal for it).

I've Studio One 5 Pro and the adverts purport it works seamlessly with this software is one sell. I've been looking at the PreSonus ioStation 24c 2x2, 192 kHz, USB Audio Interface and Production Controller. My recent plans to buy a Babyface or other high end audio interface fell though (life suddenly needed to rebudget for more affordable gear).
